In a world that made sense, there would be no “sanctuary cities.”
While states’ rights are a beautiful thing, the notion that a state or local jurisdiction can obstruct the federal government in the enforcement of legitimate federal laws is absurd.
It is, plainly, an act of rebellion against the federal government.
Therefore, those state and local officials who have established sanctuary cities to which illegal aliens can flee to avoid arrest, prosecution, and deportment for violating federal immigration statutes are obstructing justice.
This isn’t complicated.
For starters, President Trump has ordered that those jurisdictions obstructing federal immigration officials will have their federal subsidies terminated.
Of course, we know that there’s no quicker way to get a politician’s attention that to cut off funds for his or her project or jurisdiction.
Hence, Miami’s mayor has “seen the light,” and has rescinded an earlier order instructing its police not to cooperate. Miami and Dade County have now gotten with the program, had their subsidies restored, and their residents are outraged.
“The Trump administration’s announcement that it would withhold federal funds from ‘sanctuary cities’ recognized under the Obama administration ignited the fuse on what would become a wave of protests over the hot-button issue.
“One mayor of a metropolitan area, Miami and Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez, stated his intention early that his city would come into full compliance with the Trump administration’s policies.
“As reported by the Miami Herald, the Gimenez policy reversed a 2013 county policy and directed Miami-Dade jails to ‘begin honoring requests by immigration officers to extend the detentions of people in local custody who are also being sought for possible deportation
And, as promised, compliance with federal law resulted in the restoration of almost $500,000 in federal grants.
“On August 5, Miami-Dade County’s Board of County Commissioners received a letter from the U.S. Department of Justice stating that it was in compliance.
It thus became eligible for over $480,000 in federal grants.”
It takes a liberal to come up with such a stupid idea as a “sanctuary city.” Think about it for a second:
What the establishment of such zones implies is that local officials can shield individuals from whatever federal laws they wish. Right?
So why not a sanctuary city for those who traffic in illegal drugs or use them in support of those who think drug laws are wrong?
Better yet, why not a sanctuary city for those who refuse to pay their federal income taxes because they believe such taxation is wrong?
Well, the answer to that is simple… there wouldn’t be enough space for everyone who wanted to move in.
President Trump is doing his job of enforcing the law through the appropriate federal agencies; it’s really that simple. There’s nothing to argue about here.
The liberals need to either correct their beliefs or just learn to live with it. Or, better yet, look up the definition of “legal” because obviously, they’ve forgotten.
