When faced with a devout jihadist, an unarmed, elderly woman stands almost no chance of survival. However, as a 78-year-old was brutally attacked by a knife-wielding man, she shouted the only word that could come to her mind — and it caused him to stop dead in his tracks.
For over 30 years, Marike Veldman, 78, has worked with Arab children, raising them as her own in a foster home in Jerusalem, Christian News reports. In her lifetime, she has adopted a number of both Israeli and Palestinian minors who were abandoned, walking out her Christian faith in one of the most dangerous cities on earth.
Continuing her incredibly selfless charity to the world’s number one persecutors of her faith, Marike never thought that her acts of kindness would be answered with the same terrorism she attempts to snuff out in Arab youths.
While riding a bus, she noticed two suspicious looking Arab men sitting near the front, according to YNet News.
Veldman remembers the attack. “I entered the bus 78 in Armon Hanetziv (and) I saw two Arab men sitting in the very beginning of the bus, I thought to myself, ‘What were they doing on a bus at this hour, they should be at work,’ they looked suspicious,” she said.
It was then that her worst fears were confirmed.
“They were laughing, exchanging maybe a joke or something, and then all of sudden they got up and started screaming ‘Allahu Akbar,’ and then one of them started stabbing me, and he stabbed me several times,” she recounted.
As the jihadist began hacking her to death, she screamed the only word she could think to say — Jesus.
“I cried constantly in Dutch, ‘Lord Jesus! Lord Jesus! Help me! Help me!” she recalled.
As if the hand of God Himself had prevented her attacker from carrying on his savage slaughter, the Arab man stopped suddenly and retreated to the back of the bus, giving Marike just enough time to escape.
“I went close to the door, it was shut completely, and then it opened all of a sudden, with a lot of force, so I could go out. I got up and left the bus and started walking. I started walking up the hill there and I was bleeding terribly and I was alone,” Veldman said.
She remembers the moment she could finally breathe. “Somebody came from the right side, in a car, with a kippah, and I knew he was Jewish. I explained the situation to him and he took me in his car, (when) I was in his car I felt safe.”
Although Marike is shaken by the experience, she admits that it isn’t enough to force her to leave her calling in Israel.
While recovering in the hospital, Marike acknowledged that her survival is, in fact, nothing short of a miracle. She expressed her deep gratitude to the kind Jewish man who didn’t hesitate to save her life.
“He and God saved me. He is my guardian angel and I want to thank him,” she said.
As Palestinians call for a third intifada against innocent Israeli civilians, Jewish and Christian citizens are attacked with knives, cars, chunks of concrete, and firebombs on a daily basis. Still, Israeli civilians and hospitals continue to do what Palestinians refuse — save lives, even if it means treating Muslim terrorists in the same medical centers as their victims.
While the only Jewish state in the world struggles to simply exist, countless Muslim countries have already exiled, slaughtered, or driven out their Jewish citizens, creating Islamic wasteland after wasteland ruined by Sharia law. As long as the world stands against Israel, they will stand against the only free nation in the Middle East.
