A woman was sleeping soundly in her bed when an odd sensation suddenly jolted her awake. Nothing could have prepared her for the horror she was about to face when she opened her eyes and realized what was mere inches away from her, and that’s when she screamed in terror.
The woman, who has chosen to remain anonymous, was sleeping in her bed Queensland, Australia, when an odd sensation woke her. In an effort to drowsily discover what it was that woke her, she began to look in her bed to see what was causing the disruption to her sleep. However, nothing could have prepared her for what she would find mere inches away – a python.
Even in her shock and disbelief, she managed to capture a photo, which has gone viral after the woman decided to share it with the Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers. As soon as they saw it, with her permission, they posted the photo on Facebook. It has since sent chills down the spines of many people who fear snakes.
“I was sent this photo by one of my followers yesterday. They had a resident python that lived in there roof at their home just outside of Eumundi for a while and they would see him from time to time but he would always go back up into the roof,” the post began, as the Daily Mail reports. “However one night she woke to find the snake curled up in the bed with her at 3 am! Crazy. Snakes don’t want to hurt us, sometimes they just want to snuggle.”
A quick glance at the photo is truly nerve-wracking. It shows the python curled comfortably at the top of her bed, right next to her pillow – where she was sleeping. There’s nothing like waking up and looking into the eyes of an unwelcome slithery friend.
Since the post, the snake catcher has offered advice to help reduce the chances of something similar happening at another home. In fact, two main things can be done as preventative measures, and they include installing a fly screen and keeping doors and windows closed.
As one would imagine, several social media users couldn’t believe what happened to this woman. “My house would have been up for sale less than an hour later,” one social media user said, while another joked, “Noooooo way, I am surprised the sheets are still white.”
“Snakes don’t bother me at all. However, I’m not fond of spooning with them. Pretty sure my husband would have to peel me off the ceiling,” yet another commenter added, while another simply said, “That snake would not have been allowed to be a ‘resident’ snake at my house.”
Although many of us like to think that we’re in complete control of our surroundings, this is just one instance that proves we are, in fact, not. Wild animals and creatures are still quietly lurking in our lives, and there’s no telling when they just might pop up when you’re most vulnerable. Some people may be naïve, but the possibilities for such an encounter are endless.
Of course, even in America, we can be susceptible to unwanted guests, and it’s stories like this that tend to get under our skin and remind us that unexpected things can and do happen. The only thing we can do is to be aware of our surroundings and take the proper precautions so that something like this can become an even more unlikely occurrence than it already is.
If you’re afraid of snakes, or even something else that could be lurking in your home, there’s no doubt that you will be checking your sheets before you go to bed tonight. You never know what you might find.
